Frequently Asked Questions

BESPOKE COMMISSIONS

  • Commissions are custom curated for private collectors, organizations, special events, couture personal stationery, and select brand or art-driven collaborations. Offerings include multilayered hand-cut silhouettes, watercolor assemblages, and mineral-pigment printmaking, each shaped to honor the client’s vision with refined botanical artistry.

  • Each commission begins with a brief consultation to understand your intentions, aesthetic direction, and meaningful botanical or narrative elements.

A concept proposal follows, outlining palette, composition, materials, and timeline.

Once confirmed, Justina develops the piece through illustration, hand-cut dimensional silhouettes, watercolor layers, or mineral-pigment relief printing, depending on the selected format.

Upon completion, you receive archival documentation, final photography, and delivery arranged with care.

  • Bespoke pieces are shaped through hand-cut cotton paper, earth-mineral pigments, and archival watercolor, with optional heirloom textile pressed textures for added dimensionality. Silhouettes may also be rendered in refined alternative materials such as metal when aligned with the project’s vision.

Techniques include dimensional silhouette construction, layered watercolor assemblage, and mineral-pigment relief printmaking, all grounded in ecological consciousness and sculptural precision.

  • Timelines vary by scale and medium, but most commissions are completed within 6–12 weeks.

Time-sensitive projects for events or brand collaborations may be accommodated upon request.

  • Yes — bespoke commissions can be shaped to honor personal significance, meaningful objects, heirloom textiles, distinctive motifs, or refined brand narratives. Projects for private collectors, cultural organizations, artistic collaborations, and special events can include custom palettes, symbolic forms, sculptural adaptations, or material variations aligned with the project’s intention. Each request is approached with discretion, artistry, and a couture level of customization.

SACRED + UNION

  • A bespoke hand-cut floral silhouette—an interpretation of your bouquet, boutonnière, or ceremonial florals—sculpted into an heirloom composition of dimensional paper artistry and refined detail.

  • Submit the inquiry form on the Sacred + Union page, including photographs and visual design details. Justina personally reviews each request; if aligned, you will be contacted promptly to reserve a project start date. Commissions begin with a Concept Visualization, secured by a $500 consultation, fully applied to the final commission should you proceed.

  • Select heirloom textiles—lace, dress elements, or archival embroidery—may be pressed into the paper to create a subtle, intimate relief. You may also choose rare, premium handmade papers crafted from natural fibers, or request silhouettes rendered in chrome, copper, silver, or gold for an elevated, luminous presence.

  • Most commissions are completed within 4–8 weeks, with limited seasonal reservations to ensure exceptional artistry and attentive, boutique-level service.

  • Sacred + Union begins with a $500 Concept Visualization consultation, non-refundable and credited toward the final commission.

Boutonnière silhouettes begin at $500 for a 6"×6" composition.
Bouquet silhouettes begin at $1,500 for a 10"×10" composition.
Crescent Moons and Wreaths begin at $3,000 for a 14"×14" composition.

Framing, museum-quality glass, shipping, and insured transport are arranged separately and billed in addition to the commission.

ART OFFERINGS

  • Each medium reflects a distinct facet of Justina Freel’s artistry: dimensional hand-cut silhouettes shaped with sculptural precision, watercolor assemblages rendered through layered translucency and intentional negative space, and mineral-pigment editions created through refined relief printmaking.

  • Only premium, archival materials are selected—cotton and specialty papers, earth-mineral pigments, and optional couture textile textures—each chosen for their natural, non-toxic integrity. Every medium is crafted through processes safe for the artist, the collector, and the environment, ensuring longevity, depth, and an elevated tactile presence across all formats.

  • Silhouettes and watercolor assemblages are entirely unique compositions. Mineral pigment editions are produced in limited, numbered series, with each impression exhibiting nuanced variation inherent to hand-printed relief processes.

  • Yes. Each medium may be tailored in scale or composition for collectors seeking bespoke dimensions, series groupings, or installation-focused layouts.

  • All hand-cut silhouettes and watercolor assemblages are archivally framed in partnership with a trusted local art-conservation framer, ensuring each piece meets the highest standards of preservation and presentation. Framed artworks are wrapped with professional care and shipped fully insured via UPS or FedEx; larger or especially delicate pieces may be sent through a premium fine-art carrier upon request.

Mineral Pigment Editions and notecards—being unframed, flat formats—are packaged in rigid archival protection and shipped insured through USPS, UPS, or FedEx.

NOTECARDS

  • Each notecard is letterpress-printed with mineral-pigment ink hand-ground in the studio, yielding a depth, purity, and luminosity seldom encountered in contemporary stationery. While most cards today arise from inkjet reproduction, digital processes, or relief impressions made with synthetic commercial pigments, these embody artist-made mineral pigments long associated with ancient ceremonial art rather than mass-produced paper goods.

Printed on recycled, hydroelectric-powered French Paper Company stock, every piece carries refined tactility and ecological consciousness. The illustrations—rooted in North American native botanicals—unfold through delicately intricate linework that elevates correspondence into a considered, artful gesture.

  • Yes. All mineral pigments, papers, and printing methods are chosen for longevity, ensuring the cards remain beautifully preserved whether mailed, gifted, or collected.

  • Sets are wrapped in premium, eco-conscious materials with protective backing for safe transit, suitable for gifting upon arrival.

SHIPPING + DELIVERY

  • Every silhouette and watercolor assemblage is archivally framed through a close partnership with a local art-conservation framer, ensuring cohesion between the art and its final presentation. Mineral-pigment editions and notecards are delivered unframed as flat prints. All pieces are wrapped with conservation materials and handled with the same care applied in fine-art environments.

  • Most shipments travel securely through UPS, FedEx, or USPS, depending on scale, destination, and required level of protection. Large or particularly delicate pieces may be entrusted to specialized fine-art couriers when advisable for their safety.

  • Yes. Every delivery is fully insured from departure to arrival to ensure complete peace of mind.

  • International delivery is available for select pieces. Availability depends on the materials, size, and customs regulations relevant to each destination. Guidance is provided prior to purchase to ensure a seamless experience.

  • Delivery timelines vary by medium and destination. Framed silhouettes and watercolor assemblages generally require additional time due to custom framing; mineral-pigment editions and notecards ship more promptly. Estimated delivery windows are provided at the time of purchase.

  • Whenever feasible, accommodations can be made for accelerated preparation or delivery. Availability depends on studio schedule, framing timelines, and carrier options.

  • Packaging is intentionally minimal yet protective, utilizing recyclable and non-toxic materials whenever possible. Carriers are selected with consideration for reliability and environmental responsibility.

CARE + PRESERVATION

  • All silhouettes and watercolor assemblages are archivally framed in partnership with a conservation framer. For lasting clarity and integrity, display framed pieces away from direct sunlight, moisture, and significant temperature fluctuations.

Unframed mineral-pigment editions and notecards should be stored flat in a dry, temperate environment until framed.

  • Clean the glazing with a microfiber cloth lightly misted with rubbing alcohol—never spray directly. Dust the frame’s wood with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid commercial cleaners, abrasive materials, or any moisture near the interior seam.

  • Keep unframed mineral-pigment editions and notecards in their protective sleeves or archival folders. Handle with clean, dry hands, and avoid bending, stacking under heavy objects, or placing near heat or humidity.

  • Yes. All silhouettes, watercolor assemblages, mineral-pigment editions, and notecards are created using archival, non-toxic materials selected for longevity, purity, and ecological consciousness.

  • Mineral pigments and premium papers are inherently stable. Whether framed or unframed, avoid direct sunlight, high humidity, and environments such as bathrooms or kitchens to maintain crisp detail and refined tonal presence.

  • Please contact the studio. You will be connected with a trusted conservation professional, and the atelier will advise the most appropriate restoration pathway.
